Welcome to a new kind of skincare conversation—where both sides of the mirror get a say. In this series, we’re tackling skincare from two perspectives: what he thinks, what she thinks, and what actually makes sense for your skin.
Because let’s be real—somewhere between “just splash some water on it” and a 12-step routine lies the sweet spot. Whether you’re a guy who thinks lotion is optional or someone who’s got a serum for every occasion, we’re here to break it all down.
No fluff, no gatekeeping—just real talk on what your skin actually needs. Let’s get into it.
He Said:
Fellas let's get serious for a second and talk about something we ALL deal with but never talk about. How we turn into walking strips of sand paper every winter. You know the feeling don't even pretend like you don't. One day you're fine, the next, you're scratching your arms like you lost a bet and had to roll around in poison ivy. Did you?!?
Those long ass hot showers you take are a problem (sorry not sorry).
Trust me, out of all people I get it. There is nothing better than stepping into a scalding shower. Specially in these cold ass winter mornings when all I want to do is be warm and comfortable. BUT. Here's the thing we don't talk about. Hot water strips your skin of all of it's natural oils. And standing under that hot lava stream for close to an hour ( don't even lie I know that's how long you take) manages to turn you into a walking human jerky. Congrats.
How do I fix this.
Right. That's what you're asking yourself. Well the fix is simple my man. Just dial it down a little bit. No one is saying go to the other extreme and start doing cold plunges and ice bath swims nah man calm it down a second. Lukewarm showers or at least cut your showers down to half the time will help your skin retain some moisture.
You don't even moisturize bro. And She can tell...
Yeah spare me with the skincare and lotions are for women shtick. Cool story bro...but I'm not interested. How about telling your itchy ass elbows and knuckles that relief is for women. Come on man. Winter air is dry. And if you are not moisturizing then I can only guess that you like to feel like a shedding reptile in the winter. It's not pleasant and such an easy fix.
How do I fix this.
Stop reaching for that greasy, chemical packed lotion you got from that one candle shop. Instead go for something more natural - like a whipped shea body butter or a beeswax lotion bar (both of which we conveniently sell at Sweet Luxury Body Line bro. These will bring your skin back from reptilian world and keep it hydrated without ruining your cologne game. Cus I know at least that's on point. Right!
Maybe it's your soap.
I'm not saying you do this. But I'm not saying you don't. A lot of us are used to just grabbing the first bar of soap that we see is on sale and call it a day. That could be an issue. Some soaps are loaded with sulfates and drying ingredients that strip your skin even more than what it already was. And you thought you were doing yourself a favor by saving a few bucks on soap. Ha. If you feel tight and itchy right after your shower, it's your soap man!
How do I fix this.
Look for natural, moisturizing soaps. Anything with shea butter, coconut oil, or olive oil will be the gentle way to go. Oh and maybe don't scrub like your trying to sand down a wall you're getting ready to paint. Be gentle!
The bottom line
Winter doesn't have to mean sandpaper season. Cut back on the hot showers, swap out your soap and for the love of whatever you believe in use some shea butter or a beeswax lotion bar to lock in moisture. It's simple, effective, and best of all- She's going to love it too.
Now, for all the ladies! Here's Zafira!
She Said:
Ok, so many of us deal with insanely dry, cracked, and hella itchy skin during the colder months of the year. You might say, "but I have a 10-step skincare routine why is this happening to me?" Lets be real so many people ignore the skin on the rest of our bodies and solely focus on our face. I've done it, I think it's safe to say we've all been there and done it. Here are some factors contributing to that annoying itch and how to fix it.
1. Low humidity levels and blasting heaters during the winter play huge factor. As is cold air doesn't hold as much moisture causing the skin to lose moisture a lot quicker than normal. Then we go inside and blast the heater, which feels so amazing after feeling the cold sting your face.
How to fix this...
You can run humidifiers while your inside to provide your skin with some much needed moisture. try layering up a long sleeve with a sweater while you're inside to avoid blasting the heater.
2. Almost boiling hot showers. Let's admit we've all done it, turned the hot water on so high that it's so steamy you can't breath. I know I still do it even though I know it isn't good for my skin. But it's so bad for you and here's why. The excess exposure to the hot water depletes your skin of the natural oils that are protecting your skin and keeping it hydrated. These oils are important because they protect your skin from so many things that are floating around in the environment.
How to fix this...
Although we really shouldn't take burning hot showers, I'm not going to ask you to give up that comfort but at least reduce the time that you're exposing your skin to it. Doing so will keep some of the skin's natural oils in tact therefore protecting you top layer. It's so important to pat dry your skin when you're done and applying an all natural moisturizer such as whipped shea body butter. (Which we meticulously craft in small batches with no added nasty toxic ingredients) the natural fatty acids in shea butter can help protect and repair your dry itchy skin.
3. Ladies, as we get older our body endure lots of changes. one of those being reduced oil production. As we get older our body produces less and less sebum ( our skin's natural oil). this factor make our skin more susceptible to dry, cracked, and itchy skin.
How to fix this...
Well on top of using a humidifier, drinking more water or naturally hydrating beverages can also help tremendously. naturally during the colder months of the year we tend to drink less water or hydrating drinks such as coconut water or other natural electrolytes. but ensuring you stay properly hydrated will help your body produce the needed oils to lock in moisture.
Another thing you can do to lock in moisture is use a all natural beeswax lotion bar like the on we have over at Sweet Luxury Body Line. Beeswax is a humectant, meaning it will attract and lock in moisture. helping you skin stay hydrated and supple during these cold winter months.
Ladies, we don't have to keep hiding our beautiful skin behind layers and layers of clothes because were dry and itchy. Making one change at a time will help provide our skin with some much needed relief. So to recap; less hot showers, use a humidifier while inside, stay properly hydrated, stop blasting your heaters, and chose a non toxic all natural moisturizer such as beeswax lotion bars and whipped shea body butters.
