Body Care and Acne...

On this edition of The Sweet Word, let's talk about skincare habits and acne. As you know our focus is on body care. And overall wellness.

Dealing with acne can be a very stressful and overwhelming experience. And when you are talking about body acne things can even become painful depending on if you sit all day or wear tight clothing, etc.

But what exactly causes body acne?

It could be many different factors or even combinations of stress, a hormone fluctuation, clothes rubbing against your skin, sweating a lot, alcohol and even some medications have been known to cause body acne.

If you are currently experiencing body acne our recommendation has always been and will always be to see a dermatologist. There are things you can do at home to prevent making things worse like avoiding things that irritate your skin, lowering your stress levels, washing laundry more often, wearing sunscreen, trying loose clothing, and exfoliating and moisturizing.

Always keep an eye on your body acne. If it is not going away then it may be time to stop topical treatments and get some prescription products. This will be a personal choice and one that should be made by you and not some article on the internet you found.

All of my life I have dealt with some sort of body acne and I have to say it was not until I started being consistent with a routine that I began to see any difference. I am beginning to see that it's not the products as much but our discipline and desire to get the results we want.

One thing I have learned is there are no shortcuts.

Especially when it comes to things like your skin. The biggest organ we have. Delicate in places and tough and rigid in others.

The point we are trying to make here is that wellness starts within. Wellness is not a destination you can reach and be content. Wellness is a practice. A lifestyle change. A chance to get away from the toxicity that we embraced. To get back closer to nature and embrace the beauty and luxury it brings us.

This is why we always circle back to holistic wellness.

The practice of holism means that you understand that everything is connected. How much water you drink throughout the day will help determine the health of your skin. The food choices you make will have an effect on your energy levels  as well as your mood. Catching our drift here?

Making choices that are going to fuel and take care of our bodies these will contribute to our overall well being.

Discipline is a form of loving yourself.

So if you can be disciplined enough to be conscious about making choices that will help you feel better and fuel your body you will see results in every aspect of your life. As adults, it is our responsibility to make choices that will better us and heal us. We have more control than we realize. Granted we don't have control of our upbringing and any trauma we may have experienced but we have control of how we are as functioning adults.

Everything is interconnected.

You really can't talk about one thing without talking about the other. In order to feel good and achieve the results that we want we have to put in the work. Nowadays that's a rarity given the mentality of the society we live in. We're so used to having everything fast, a quick dopamine hit, that having to wait becomes something detrimental.

All to say that consistency, and discipline will help you achieve the results you want. You have to be disciplined to be consistent. Although we are human and mistakes will happen, life will happen and sometimes we fall off of our horse of life. The key is to get back on and keep going. Pick up where you left off. It's a marathon not a race.

Remember, wellness and happiness are not destinations. Having discipline is a form of loving yourself.
